Objects and Curiosities

For people who collect, the value of their collections are not monetary but emotional. The collections allow people to relive their childhood, connect themselves to a period or to a time they feel strongly about. Their collections help them ease insecurity and anxiety about losing a part of themselves and to keep the past to continue to exist in the present. Some collect for the thrill of the hunt. For these collectors, collecting is a quest, a lifelong pursuit which can never be completed. Collecting may provide psychological security by filling a part of the self one feels is missing or is void of meaning. When one collects, one experiments with arranging, organizing, and presenting a part of the world which may serve to provide a safety zone, a place of refuge where fears are calmed and insecurity is managed. Motives are not mutually exclusive, rather, different motives combine for each collector for a multitude of reasons.

I am one of those people who collects things especially when I am out on walks or travelling. I tend to always bring a least one thing home with me as a memento of the day or holiday.  These objects now ‘litter’ my house but as us collectors know just a glance at the object brings back vivid memories of the moment it was found.

There is mix of images here including some studies of nature especially leaves, berries and seeds.

If you are a fellow collector you may appreciate these image, if not, you may think I am mad!!

Images of birds eggs.  None of the eggs have been removed from a nest, they are either empty shells after the chick has hatched or have been abandoned etc.
